Privacy notice
Effective October 8, 2026.
What this site collects
Reading the book requires no account and no personal information. The site sets no tracking cookies and runs no advertising scripts. Page views are counted with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookie-free, does not fingerprint devices, and does not follow you to other sites.
Information stored in your browser
Your pins, your last reading position, and your theme preference are stored in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device unless you choose to export them or copy a share link, which encodes your pin list into the link itself. Clearing site data removes them.
Search
The search index is downloaded to your browser once and searched locally; the header search box never sends what you type to a server. The full results page keeps your query in the page address so you can bookmark or share it, which means that address (including the query) is requested from Cloudflare like any other page. We do not store or analyze those queries.
CourtListener tools
The “Find a case” search and the checker's “Verify with CourtListener” step send your query or pasted text from this site's server to the CourtListener API operated by the Free Law Project, under their terms. We cache responses so repeated queries are not re-sent, and we rate-limit requests per visitor using a hashed form of your IP address kept for a few hours. We do not store the text of your queries. The reporter and court lookups and the parser itself run entirely in your browser.
Print-edition notice list
If you submit the print-edition form, we store the email address you provide, the role you selected, the page you submitted from, the time, and your browser's user-agent string in a database operated on Cloudflare. We use it only to send one notice when the print edition is available and to prevent duplicate entries. We do not sell or share it. To be removed, reply to the notice email or contact the author.
Hosting and logs
The site is served by Cloudflare, which processes standard request metadata (such as IP address and request path) to deliver and protect the service, under Cloudflare's own privacy terms. The author does not combine that metadata with the notice list.
External links
Chapter source notes, the state directory and the crosswalk link to courts, legislatures, agencies, archives and public databases. Those sites have their own privacy practices.
